The Assam Valley School
Library is a hub of all activities going on in the school
and has become the centre of informal education. It is
equipped with state-of-art information products and
services, that has enabled it to meet the complex and ever
increasing information needs of the school community.
Reading Lists
Separate reading lists have
been provided to both the Junior and the Middle School
pupils. To inculcate good reading habits amongst younger
students, it is mandatory for students of classes 3 to 8 to
borrow books from the Library.
Reading Programme
The Reading program
initiated in the year 2006-2007 has been a fruitful and
enriching experience for the Middle School. During the 80
minutes of reading time, students are encouraged to share
their ideas and understanding of a variety of literary
forms, from poems, short-stories to biographies. Students
are graded at the end of each term on their interest,
improvement and involvement in the program. Many students
have shown tremendous progress in their reading skills.
At the end of each term, the reading awards for the ‘Best
Reader’ of the term and the ‘Most Promising Reader’ of
the term are given to students of the Junior, Middle and
Senior Schools.
Library Committee
The Library Committee
comprises of representatives from each house in both the
Junior and Senior categories. These representatives put
forward suggestions which may promote reading habits amongst
students. They also assist the Librarian in acquiring new
books.
