Boys Houses

Boys Houses

There are eight boarding houses at AVS; four boys’ houses and four girls’ houses. These houses are clubbed together as brother and sister houses for all Inter-house events.

The Brother / Sister House combinations are: –

BROTHER HOUSE SISTER HOUSE
MANAS JINARI
NAMDANG SUBANSIRI
DHANSIRI KOPILI
LOHIT BHOROLI

In addition to the 8 boarding houses, there is a girls’ holding house called ‘Tihu’ where girls from Classes 5 to 8 are accommodated.

The Boys’ Houses are called Brother Houses. Students of class 5 to 8 stay in lower houses and students of class 9 to 12 stay in the upper houses.

Manas House

Manas, one of three oldest Houses in the school, came into existence in 1995. It has, over the years, garnered a strong cultural heritage and won several awards and accolades. Being an embodiment of the Red, the boys of Manas stand up in union sharing their dreams and aspirations into becoming messengers of hope for the future.

The House motto, ‘Perseverance’, personifies each Manas boy, because the road to perfection requires perseverance and consistent practice, however talented one may be. This attribute has enabled, Manas to produce fine individuals in the fields of academics, sports and culture. We have done particularly well in a diverse array of activities such as music, debating, dramatics, writing, football, swimming, athletics, basketball, squash, marathon, water polo, archery, horse riding and a range of other disciplines.

Manas has also been consistent in Academics. Down the years, Manas has produced some exemplary leaders, including three School Captains, and the same number of Head Boys, apart from a number of other prefects.

Namdang House

Namdang, the house of the Spartans, has impacted itself in the history of The Assam Valley School as a house that is driven by character and integrity. Known for producing a few of the finest individuals the school has ever seen, Namdang is truly a proud house built on principles and ideologies stemming from the house motto “Dare to Excel”. The boys of Namdang are taught to dare, placing the search for excellence over accomplishment as the house aims to create gentlemen out of boys. The House boasts of several Intra-house events designed to stimulate overall holistic development of the child, while also teaching them important life skills such as ethics, sportsmanship and strong determination. True to their name, the Spartans, Namdang believes deeply in the ideas of brotherhood and fraternity- each Spartan looking after his fellow comrade in all spheres of school life.

“We stand shoulder to shoulder, shield to shield, united and unwavering”.

Dhansiri House

Dhansiri House was established in 1998. The motto of the House is “TO STRIVE TO SEEK AND NEVER GIVE UP”. In today’s competitive world, this is what every individual aspires to achieve. Such individuals come together in Dhansiri House to form a brotherhood that is built on the tenets of cooperation, camaraderie and most importantly, commitment to the House Spirit. Dhansiri has evolved with the changing times but has retained its steadfast veteran traditions. With every passing year, the resolve to create new benchmarks or unearth untrodden paths is what makes Dhansiri dynamic. The colour green symbolises rebirth and hope as this House has the potential to rise from the ashes like the phoenix and fly to greater heights. The Green Lions have carved a niche for themselves in every aspect of school life be it in academics, sports or cultural pursuits. They will turn into men of integrity, character and conscience not because they lived in Dhansiri, but because Dhansiri always lives in them.

Lohit House

Lohit House is one of the oldest houses in The Assam Valley School. The House was instituted on 1st April, 1995 with Mr. Anton Siromani as the founding Housemaster. We aim to inculcate in each Lohitian respect, responsibility and service for these are the values that are symbolised by the colour blue of the Lohitians. The House focuses on developing the mind, body and spirit of each of its members. The House motto “First Deserve Then Desire” inspires each individual to look at the bigger picture, to work harder and achieve his goals. The Blue House combination of Lohit and Bhoroli (brother-sister) strives to perform its best in all fields with their hard work reflecting in every aspect of school life. We strongly believe that school is an adventure in a child’s life. The House is working according to uphold the vision of our founder Mr. Brij Mohan Khaitan, “I want to prove that a good school will produce a good student, and that a good student will produce a good citizen and a good citizen will produce a good country”.
