Publications

The room above the library nestled away from the humdrum of School is home to a few such Aviators who pursue words passionately. They create this niche weaving its textures from wisps of their imagination. Reflective of who it nurses, the cream walls of the room wear on it like body art, impressions of the minds of those who have lived, served and grown within its protective solitude. It houses with great pride the School’s publication The Assam Valley Express, known more popularly by its acronym ‘AVE’.

For a School that boasts a host of co-curricular activities that are its pride, the Publication is a quiet corner chronicling the uproar of the life of an Aviator. Seeing through the journey of the ordinary shredding away the mundane to pursue excellence, the publications capture every aspect of life as it is, remembering what it was and celebrating the brilliance of its tomorrow. One of the few activities in School whose prerequisites lie in the word ‘tenacity’, it becomes a shelter for those who are unafraid to venture out into a maze of words.  For the novice, the baptism begins with intent and is carried forward with determination which thereon forges in them a sense of professionalism that becomes the hall mark of their characters. At the Publications Unit, a student learns the essential skills of multitasking, collaboration and resourcefulness. It trains them to meet deadlines with an obsession that teaches them the value of time and embeds in them the importance of punctuality. As Print Media, while essentially they learn the ropes of journalism here, they also discover the truth of human fallacies and thereby grow an innate sense of sensitivity.

The Editorial team 2017 – 2018 boasted of Tulika Bhargav as Editor-in-Chief with Judah Abujam as Deputy Editor. The Room has seen a change of guard and the newly appointed Editor-in- Chief 2018-2019 is Nandini Garodia with Sieyina Meru as Deputy Editor and Aakanksha Dutta as Associate Editor. The Team consists of Jeremy Jahau, Page Designer and the ‘Keeper of the Grandfather’ (as the ancient desktop computer is fondly referred to by the Team), Saziia Selvia, Sanjana Barooah and Eloziini Senachena.

At the publications, a student blends into a team while evolving with a definite mark of individuality that becomes as much a part of their personalities as their thought process. To those who give to it devotedly, it becomes a defining journey of self-discovery and learning. AVE, to those who live and breathe it, is a world of its own, transcending from being ‘an activity’ to ‘a way of life’.
